The future of public education is found in technology. It’s only natural. Our students love it. It’s convenient. It’s interesting. It’s efficient. There are innumerable resources. Why would we not take advantage of our world’s technological advances?
When they take over as teacher.
We were loving the technology so much that we got to the point that the tablets had become the teacher with me as the instructional aide. It was hard to admit, but that admission enabled an incredible transformation in my classes. I began to recapture the attention of my students as their primary instructor. I taught lessons and managed the class. I interacted with students and scaffolded their learning. I took back the position as teacher while using the technology as the instructional aide.
The effect was amazing. I had greater control while the technology provided greater motivation and assistance. The students’ success jumped through the roof. Yes, I was the teacher and the technology my assistant… instead of the other way around.
